Samsung Pay Card is here, starting with the UK
In May, Samsung announced it would launch a debit card sometime this summer, an expansion of its Samsung Pay services. The company delivered: On Aug. 18, the Samsung Pay Card becomes available in the UK. To launch the card, Samsung has partnered with fintech startup Curve, and the card is powered by Mastercard. But the partnership with Curve goes beyond pure name-throwing: The Samsung Pay Card will have the properties of a Curve card, meaning users will be able to bring together all of their other Mastercard and Visa cards and manage them from one place. This enables some unique features, such as the "Go Back in Time" functionality, allowing users to move transactions from one card to another after they've been made. Other perks of note include a one percent cashback when buying from certain brands, as well as five percent cashback on purchases from Samsung.com, cheap currency conversion fees throughout the week, and Samsung Knox security. "By bringing Curve’s unique technology to Samsung devices [the card] empowers millions of Samsung customers to take control of their money, access more choice, and enjoy a banking experience like never before, across all their accounts, without the need to switch banks or limit themselves to only one bank, all from the palm of their hand," Shachar Bialick, CEO and founder of Curve, said in a statement. Interested users can sign up for the Samsung Pay Card on their Samsung Pay app, and existing Curve users in the UK can also sign up for the card. There's no word on when the card will become available in other markets.
