#ShePersisted becomes new rallying cry for Elizabeth Warren supporters
Just as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell angered supporters of Sen. Elizabeth Warren by literally shutting her down mid-debate, they turned the tables against him by taking up his own words as their new rallying cry. McConnell said he halted Warren's speech during the senate's debate over President Trump's Attorney General nominee, Sen. Jeff Sessions, in which Warren was reading a 1986 letter by Coretta Scott King that criticized Sessions, because she was impugning Session's character. Later, McConnell said in his own defense, “Sen. Warren was giving a lengthy speech. She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.” As McConnell's words spread across the internet, progressives picked up on the words "Nevertheless, she persisted," using the phrase, as well as the hashtag "#shepersisted," to show support for Warren and even honoring other women who have made a social impact. Including Hillary Clinton. And, yes, you can already buy a T-shirt. Warren herself lived up to McConnell's word. Though she was prevented from further speaking during the Sessions debate, Warren left the chamber and finished her reading of King's letter, broadcasting it on Facebook Live. And, lest McConnell gets too comfortable, the organizers behind the hugely successful Women's March on Washington have already announced plans for their next event. McConnell better get ready to see his own words on thousands of signs and T-shirts. Tweet may have been deleted
