Samsung's new $156,000 TV comes with a solar
CES is almost upon us, which means it's time to learn about some wildly ambitious (and expensive) TVs that most people can't afford or accommodate. Samsung got the party started on Wednesday by announcing a line of new TVs coming in 2021. There are more traditional 4K and 8K QLED sets that look very nice, but we're going to focus on the new Micro LED line from Samsung. Originally launched in Korea last year, Samsung is bringing its 110-inch behemoth to the west in 2021 along with "smaller" 99-inch and 88-inch models. No price was given, but it's worth noting that the Korean price from last year came out to about $156,000 USD. So, yeah. It's a lot. There's practically no bezel of any kind around the screen, so all of those inches are dedicated to delivering a high-end 4K display. Our friends at PCMag have a more detailed explanation you can check out, but Micro LED uses swaths of tiny LEDs to create better black and brightness levels than what is commonly found in home TVs. It's strictly for wealthy early adopters at this point, which might help explain why the TVs are so massive, so expensive, and output at 4K when Samsung has comparatively less advanced QLED TVs that go up to 8K. Micro LED will get there in time, but that time isn't now. If you buy one of these gargantuan TVs (or anything else from Samsung's 2021 line), you'll also get an unusual remote. Samsung claims it can be charged both by indoor and outdoor light sources, as well as by USB, which we imagine is how most people will do it. There's not much more to say about it other than it kind of looks like a Juul. CES hasn't officially started yet and Samsung is already delivering the goods with its luxury TV lineup.
